Required invoice details

An invoice in Austria that supports input VAT deduction needs clear details about issuer and recipient, service, delivery or service period, consideration, tax rate, VAT amount, issue date, sequential invoice number, and the issuer's VAT ID.

Show service, period, amount, and VAT transparently

Assign a unique sequential invoice number

Use an appropriate exemption note where no VAT amount is shown

VAT ID, reverse charge, and cross-border cases

For invoices over EUR 10,000 including VAT, the recipient's VAT ID may be required. Reverse charge and intra-community supplies require additional details, such as the recipient VAT ID and a note about transfer of tax liability or tax exemption.

Capture customer VAT ID for relevant cases

Do not mix reverse-charge notes or exemption notes with a normal VAT charge

Show the VAT amount in euros when invoicing in another currency

Small invoices and e-invoices

For small invoices up to EUR 400 including VAT, simplified requirements can apply, with exceptions such as intra-community supplies. Electronic invoices are possible when the recipient accepts them and authenticity of origin, integrity of content, and readability are ensured.

Check the small-invoice threshold and exceptions before sending

Archive electronic invoices in a readable and traceable way

Capture invoice data so tax advisors and exports can continue cleanly
